So here's another issue. The game will get abused in a new way - people without the book of mushrooms/stars will be able to get the mushrooms/constellations, because the other player have them, or the other way around - people with no finished quests will be able to get only 1 coef. 5 item, so the other player will be able to unlock it fast.

Basically they could talk using Skype, ICQ, Ventrilo or any of the hundreds applications that connect two people with headsets.

Okay, but how should they play? They would have to connect their keyboards or game controllers somehow...

First of all you forget I mentioned that it could be a quest to unlock the online mode, thus make it so players are unable access it to early.

Secondly, about the coef.# items, those could be blocked from that mode. Or perhaps all items (except gems) were to be disabled which also could keep players from getting items they shouldn't be able to get yet or something like that.

Thirdly, I've seen that when playing in the two player mode the game is capable of keeping the Sandy man and Igor apart when they collect points, a similar method be could use be to tell the players apart.

Or maybe you could make the quest super-evil like "1 Pyramid Pass / 1 Nightmare Key / 1 Coeff. 6 Item"

maybe another pyramid can be created, with the scores of 2p mode, all the points are shared(so the score will be much higher than the normal pyramid), every player get the item picked up by one(so no coeff 6 rush)...of course the lag problem remains, but with 2 players it shouldnt be over 0-2 seconds(online xbox-ps3 games got 0.5 or less and they work with 8-10 connections at the same time, not 2)
