shorcuts.....

Pyramid level: 4 --

I'm fairly new to the game, and I just recently got to lvl 40. To most here, this would probably seem like child's play, but for me it is quite an accomplishment seeing as I can only use the small shorcut where you throw a bomb down the well. (and I'm new and I can't really play that well yet.)

What's the earliest floor that you can get a key to another shortcut?

There are no actual shortcuts. The keys are to parallel dimensions which contain more levels and most of the time are MUCH harder than usual levels. Almost every person will advice you NOT to use the well, because you skip 10 easy levels, all the points you get from them (you can get more than 300k, without good items, if you are good, or 100k which is one life, if you are not that good), all of the items and all of the letters, which if you are lucky may give you 1 or even 2 lives! The parallel dimension at level 6 is safe to go to. The one at level 16 (you have to put a bomb on the little ledge that is the only way up if you fall to the lowest floor) contain 44 golden coins and one fireball. If you are not greedy it cannot kill you.

Huh..... okay, guess I'll take your advice on the shortcut then.

I already figured out the psuedo-mario level with the coins and the fireball, which was a laugh. Thanks to it I only need like 4 more coins in order to finish that quest.

I've gone through some of the parallel dimensions, but I'm always a little confused as to where they spit you out. Do they generally teleport you to the level after the one you were just on, or does it vary depending on the portal?

Usually, Parallel Dimensions either:
A) Put you on the level after the one you were just on.
B) Put you on the level after the one you would've gone to if you didn't go into the PD.
and possibly
C) Put you 2 or 3 levels ahead of the one you were just on. (I'm not sure if any do this, I don't have the game memorized like that.)

Here are some that you should always take)
PD3
PD6
PD16
PD72
PD97

Those are ones that you definately should go through, almost every game you play.

Cool, thanks for the suggestion. I guess the only one I've been going through all the time is PD16. Otherwise, I was sticking to the main course for fear that I would get trapped in a room that would waste all my lives. ( I believe I came across one area entitled "the colesseum" that was a narrow tower of tiny steps that had the green goo crawling all over it....... Nasty place.

Any other helpful tips for a beginner?

I'm a new player as well, almost a week old now (but my concept of time isnt really accurate, so probably less) so while my advice likely isn't the best, here's what I've come up with so far:

Don't worry about points when you're starting out; instead go for progression. This way, you're more likely to complete your quests faster, getting amazing items (See: Armageddon) and without completing your quests you don't stand a chance (as a newbie) to get a worthwhile score, anyways.

This also means taking 0 out of order, trying to complete it ASAP, because it gives you an extra life and clears the level. If you're going for points and go C-R-I-S-T-A-L, you get 150,000 bonus points, but I feel that in the longrun you're more likely to survive by getting as much 0 as possible.

Make sure you get all the items you want from the level before killing the last monster. If there's a chance that killing one of them will finish off the other by accident, don't risk it. On every level, you'll first see an effect item such as 7 spawn, then a 0 , and finally a points item. 1070 . Multiple 0 can spawn in one level, varying in type, but I'm not sure how this works so I'll stop talking about it.

Unless you're completing quests, and it won't particularly devastate your course, avoid harmful items like 22 or the umbrella (You can miss easy levels that would otherwise give you more items, like electriczax pointed out with shortcuts.)

You'll notice that the more quests you complete, the easier the game gets, so the current course I'm setting for myself is killing tuber first, finishing essential quests, then focusing on points.

If a run isn't going particularly well, remember that you still get practice just by playing, so keep your spirits high and keep fighting to get better used to the game. Given enough time, even newbies like us will kill tuber and reach the pantheon.

Obviously, you probably already know about Cadomax and the item/quest PDF files from browsing the forum, since you're posting here. If not, these are helpful resources that will be essential in guiding you through ideal PD's, quests, and kill orders to get the giant crystal. Even if points aren't your primary focus early on, remember that you get lives from high points; the most you'll probably be able to get (same with me) right now are the three lives at 100k, 500k, and 1 million points.

If any pros disagree with anything I've said, feel free to correct me because I want to learn as well. That being said, I hope my advice helps you; I started progressing much faster when I followed these same rules.

First off: You're correct, especially since 102 (at Lv. 103) gives you another permanent extra life, like 103 :D

Second: "amazing items" 108 83 94 1050 96 1075 79, for example :P

This also means taking 0 out of order, trying to complete it ASAP, because it gives you an extra life and clears the level. If you're going for points and go C-R-I-S-T-A-L, you get 150,000 bonus points, but I feel that in the longrun you're more likely to survive by getting as much 0 as possible.

For the longest time ('till Pyramid 2) I only took CRISTAL in order, because I didn't know about the extra life. :lol:

Multiple 0 can spawn in one level, varying in type, but I'm not sure how this works so I'll stop talking about it.

We all know that different color crystals fall when multiple enemies are killed. 0 works the same. I'll use crystals to make it slightly easier:

Blue (or no enemies) = 1
Green = 2
Red = 3
Yellow = 4
Purple = 5
Orange = 6
Black = 7 or more

If a run isn't going particularly well, remember that you still get practice just by playing, so keep your spirits high and keep fighting to get better used to the game. Given enough time, even noobs like us will kill tuber and reach the pantheon.

Recently, I had a RQS (1 death = rage quit, aka Ctrl Shift K, and it was so bad that I actually remove my K key before each game. Sad, I know. :(

Nice guide! 8)

Ah, thanks for your positive feedback. It's good to hear that I'm going about things properly from a more experienced player.

For myself, my first couple of games I just went for 0 , not really finding the level clear bonus that useful. I later saw the tip regarding CRISTAL, so I went online and heard someone on the forums (when I started browsing; huge help, by the way) reveal the 150k bonus, so I started going for that as well. After getting tons of letters out of order in a few games, both on this version and other languages, I read about the extra lives in my own thread, and that's completely changed my 0 strat.

I didn't actually know about how the letters worked. So, the combos I get are what changes the letters? That would explain a lot, and help me get one-ups faster. Let's see if I've got this right:

Assuming it starts with C, if I kill one enemy, does it shift to R, a completely random letter, or require a combo of 2 or more kills? I'm afraid I don't really understand.

If you kill 3 enemies, on the next level, 3 0 letters are randomly selected to appear. Then, on the level, each time a 0 appears, one of those 3 is randomly chosen.

Replace 3 with whatever number is appropriate. ;)

That makes a lot of sense; I'll try it out on the french game and see how it works.

Actually, with where you're going, I think you shouldn't avoid point chances whenever you can because of the extra lives and the experience of getting more later on (good example is level 54, you can bomb all of the bombinos at once and get the giant orange cristal).
