I have made it to level 49 and unlock co-operation mode but I can't figure out why i cant get the thing in lvl 49 that lets you share lives in the game
To get the shared heart which unlocks lives sharing, you must get to level 49 on Two Player mode, and collect the item that looks like a Red and Blue .
Then, live sharing will be unlocked as an option for Two Player mode.
