It's true. You are thinking of tuberculosis, commonly known as TB. I'm not sure if it has a similar name in French, or whether Motion Twin had this connection in mind when they named him. I suppose Tuber IS like a disease, in a way ...

As far as I know Tuber = Potato. So it must be some sort of Potato Flu

The French word for tuberculosis is "tuberculose;" for tuber, "tubercule."

A tuber is a plant structure used by plants (such as potatoes) to "overwinter" (hibernate), grow and reproduce. (I looked it up.)

The disease appears to have nothing to do with the tuber.

Tuber is possibly a nick name for tuberculosis and MT sure had this disease in mind, when they pondered the name of the bad guy.

When the game begins, a text appears and says about this: "You hear the terrible sound coming from deep of the caves" and at the same time you here Tuber laughing and after that caughing badly.

Tuberculosis mainly strikes to lungs so seemingly Tuber also has tuberculosis.
