Though it was tempting...

here's an evil-ish problem ^^

given the equation x^3+y^2=2, find the points closest on the graph to the origin (there are 2).
then add the values together (x1+y1+x2+y2), raise to the 2.4 power, and you have a close approximate to my age.

Your age seems to be about 19,05 years, if I counted right...? :D

Luckily I studied engineer-mathematics some years ago and this was a senior high school or high school grade problem. :P

I found only one point closest to the origin - [x = 2^(1/3); y = 0]. x+y ~ 1.26; x^2+y^2 ~ 1.59
But its (x+y) doubled and raised to the 2.4 power is too small to be ColinD's age :innocent:
Where did you found two points  .. or I didn't understand description of the problem

I actually found only one point closest to the origin. There is no more, but then I thought I could have understood wrong.

I took two coordinates, which had the smallest x and y values. Those where (0;4,142) or somethin like that and (1,1) if I can remember right. :timide:

Points [0;sqrt(2)] and [1;1] really has the same distance from the origin, d = sqrt(2), but they are not closest :innocent:

hmm... possibly i did the problem wrong, let me look it up...

and i forget who said 19.05 (i assume that was a . not a ,) was close... i'll perhaps post a new problem if i was wrong, elsewise i'll say i was right.
but now, i've got to write my research paper, not do math :D

ok yes, i did do it wrong... seems i messed up somewhere... i'll give you a new one.

4 times my age is between 60 and 100.
my age is a root to the equation x^2+2x-360.

that is enough to figure out my age, and much easier than my last one
