I usually lose many lives on 54.5... Though I know there are worse levels out there...

And how man the last level of PD 3 be hard? Just two blobs... Then again, you are new, but still...

It's because of the fireballs they shoot. (I don't notice any warning about when they'll shoot. )

They stand still right before they shoot.
Aside from that - much more important is to stay out of reach for them. Whenever they "see" you in their shooting direction, they shoot (at least nearly always), so when they move past you, you must move in the other direction at the same time, then you are not in really great danger. Good luck!

That's why I have so much trouble with them.
