So, I've been watching someone else play Bubble Bobble.
After watching 50 levels, I noticed how similar it was to Hfest. Yes, I know this is just a type of game, but they are so similar...

1: When you hit enemies but don't kill them, they get angry and go after you, and go faster.
2: If you take too long, a "HURRY!" will appear across the screen, and all the monsters go really fast.
3: After taking too long, an unbeatable monsters (or two if you're playing two-play) appears and follows you around until you beat the stage (though this one goes away when all the enemies are beaten).
4: There are running shoes, which are useful, but often mess up your high-jump timing, JUST LIKE HFEST. GRR.
5: The item Umbrella skips levels for you.
6: The Book items are the rarest, and they kill off all the monsters on the screen and gives you tons of items.
7: Picking up some jewels will make all the monsters disappear, and low-point jewels will cover the screen. Picking them all up gives a large bonus.
8: Killing monsters in the right order will make a giant crystal fall from the sky (though that one touches the bottom floor :dontcare: ).

I know that a few of these are common for these kinds of games, but does anyone else find that Bubble Bobble and Hfest are just so... Similar?

The first time I played Hammerfest I thought "this game is a perfect mix of Bomberman, Bubble Bubble and Snow Bros". I find it similar to those three games.

MT was inspired by Bubble and Bobble (and maybe, just maybe, Snow Bros) to make Hammerfest. Level 93, for example, is a homage to the monster that follows you if you stand in a level for too long in B&B. :)

Along with Rick Dangerous, which inspired them to make PD51.

Don't forget PD 43, which I believe features a couple levels that are exactly like Bubble Bobble. Also the whale level (what level is that again?).

I agree with Zax though, especially once you can get Unstable Explosives, then it becomes even more like Bomberman :P

I've never played Snow Bros. though. Kinda curious now.

@ColdFrog
The level with the 'whale' (actually its name is Monsta) is 93. ;)

Snow Bros is fun. You can play it online, though I like the Game Boy version better. :)

In Snow Bros you freeze your enemies into snowballs and you push them so the snowballs kill the other enemies.

Don't forget:
Sonic 1198 1185
One piece 91 92
Hare nochi Guu 88 99 100 and Manda
Their own game PiouPiou 84
All the consoles 1201 1202 1203 1204 1205 1206 1207 1208
and more :)

Maaaan, you gotta love MT :)
