No, it can't. If you watch carefully (you may try it on lvl 2-3 or so) when it appear it is blinking and it cannot hit you then. If you don't take the parallel 11, on lvl 13 you may wait on the edge and as soon as the ball shows up - jump down and walk through it. It won't kill you. But I had this "WTF?! Where did this guy come from?" moment few days ago so I know now what you mean

I had more lives than I could count on 90, but I wasted SO MANY on the nineties. I was all set to beat Tuber, too!
