Are PDs a Treasure or Waste?

Pyramid level: 1 50
Wednesday 09 Mar 2011 02:45
Hello everyone and welcome to my first poll, "Are PDs a Treasure or Waste?". The title must have been catchy, right? Anyway, I would like to ask you your opinion on the usefulness of Parallel Dimensions. Are they useful or a waste of time? You might be thinking, "Why would they be a waste of time?" Well, they make you take longer to get to Tuber and don't improve the chance of getting you deeper in the caverns. Some would say they're a life-waster (they make you lose some lives instead of saving them for the normal levels. However, some might say that they are good, that they help train you for the normal levels. Most of them are filled with black crystals and cool effect items. This is my opinion:
I think that PDs are filled with cool items that propel you way further with strength in the game. However, I don't usually go in them and waste my time going into a different part of the game rather than focusing on the main adventure. I currently would think of PDs as a time-waster but I think I will change my mind in the future, when I think about discovering Hell and going deep in the PDs. However, I often lose the game in a PD because it is too hard. I feel much safer in the normal levels.

Can you see how the topic begs a good debate? The vote will start now and end on Wednesday, March 16 at 11:59 PM. Once it ends, can I ask a moderator to politely close the thread? Thank you, and the results will be displayed in the next poll. :)

Beginners shouldn't enter PDs (except PD6, PD16 and PD92). It is the waste of lives! Try to beat Tuber first and start every game with new life at the beginning.

For advanced players: PDs are cool because you can get more points, more 0 and more items.

What about PD3?

They are not only no waste they are basicly needed to "beat" the game, so the case is clear as barenl says.

I would also advise PD3 for beginners. They get there first Co0 item that way and also can use it as good train. And if they learn it quick then it's a good score bonus on long term. And i think "beginners" should take PD97 too, because in my opinion Lev98 is even more difficulty.

My tactic for the game was to make a plan to get all Co0 items and then i try to get the next on my list 10x. This was a good train for the main game and brought me to hell in the end.

But you should at least hunt every Co0 item 1x because some are needed for missions that opens new item families.

Score hunters also take every PD they can get and try the right order in it. That is a pretty good train for you skills, but i was never a fan of score hunting. I am more the item hunter.

I guess you're not counting 0, 1000, and 1051. ;)

Erm, Parallel Dimensions are good.

There is honestly no argument here.

I agree with wrzosu, and jawsdark puts up a good explanation. I am assuming wrzosu's choice is "PDs are good" because I know he/she's a good player (and well-respected mod!)

It depends on the PD and the reason you play. If you want to make a lot of points - you need to go in PD0 and PD2. If you want to get farther in the game - you need to skip those as they are quite likely to get some of your lives and thus you won't get that far.
