game crashing / resetting?

In the past couple of days, I've twice had the page Hammerfest was on spontaneously reload, causing me to lose my game and all its data. Tonight it happened on level 87, after nearly an hour of playing, and merciful heavens was I ever unhappy :pleure: I'm 100% certain that I didn't reload the pages by accident -- my hands were nowhere near the R key, and the mouse pointer was in the center of the Hammerfest screen the entire time.

I actually lost a third game yesterday, when I pressed C just as I was entering a PD and it caused the game to crash.

I haven't seen errors like these before, so I'm wondering whether they've started happening to anyone else. I'm using Safari 5 on a Mac, OS 10.5.

You said you are using Safari, so I'm afraid I have to tell you to switch browsers. Check out the "Browser War" thread for some good options and their features.

If you were using Opera, here would be the problem. (Unfortunately, you don't use Opera.)

If you right-click any webpage in Opera, one of the menu items will say "Reload Every". Hover over it and the new menu will give a list of time frequencies for the page to reload automatically. When you are on Hammerfest, make sure "Never" is selected or click "Custom" and make sure "Enable" is not selected. Automatic reloading was made to update the content of a page that is kept open constantly.

I don't think other browsers have this feature, but you can check just in case.

Thanks for the advice, lann. I was actually coming back to report that I switched to playing in Firefox (3.6.16), which is what MT seems to recommend anyway, and got two more crashes. This is also after a restart of my computer and killing any programs that were doing funny things with the CPU. I have all firefox extensions disabled too.

I looked into the automatic reload option. Safari and firefox both require a third-party extension, neither of which I have. They also don't explain the occasions (now three of them) on which the game froze up or crashed.
