Casual Player Fail

Pyramid level: 2 4

Even though I usually play once a day I've made peace with the fact that I'll never beat this game before the coming Flashpocalypse next year and what I just learned today helps underscore why.

I have straight up been playing this game for fun (my one mission, which is largely out of my hands, is to get the blasted 2nd Evil Liquor to end the quest that will produce the Wine Key) for *years* and I always thought the main reason I wouldn't beat it is I'm too impatient. I've got a couple of crystal orders and gold coin spots in mind but can't ever be arsed to look up the ones I don't. I always blow the bomb in the well at the start to skip ahead as far as possible even though Cadomax coaches that's a bad idea for all the easy missed items and points (my feeling is, geeze, game already takes forever w/o tacking in even more levels!).

Well, since I have some extra time off at the holidays I thought "what the heck" I'll try and get some more gold coin spots in my head at least and so reviewed Cadomax. In doing that it noted somewhere that the first item to appear is always an effect item while the second is always inert.

*Years* of playing and countless levels I never once noticed this important fact. Yeesh!

Flashpocalypse?
Well, if you actually want to beat the game I'll tell you you'll do it if you really try and want to beat it.
And yes, that includes doing the first few levels, maybe trying to get consistent at some easier orders, and reflecting on your deaths and how to avoid them in the future, especially in later levels. Oh, and respect the 0 , they are so important.
Practice makes perfect, and if you want, I believe you can beat the game in less time than you think.

About the effect and point item ... I also didn't know that until I read it somewhere either on the forum or on some help site

I don't think anyone has ever completely "finished" the game - but if you mean beating Tuber, yes you can do it.

I've been trying to do it for years - many, many years. I've been getting cristal orders on most fruits under 4 or 5 (and the occasional 6, 7, or 8 fruits!), and FINALLY beat Tuber just a couple weeks ago and got my carrot. Know which PDs will give you easy points and which ones skip harder levels (PD97 skips the one-level-hell of 98, for example).

A week later I beat him again, much much easier this time. I would pick a goal, and play with that goal in mind until you get it. So, if you're after beating Tuber, then skip levels right and left, taking any level up you can. Preserve lives and miss the orders.

If you want to hit the HoF, play slow and try to get every order under 4 for starters...they're easy once you get the hang of it. I'd never have made the HoF if the competition was tough; a 3mil score got me there and that's chicken feed when you look at the earlier players.

If you're after keys and pads, focus on the Ids you need to them off.

You can do it! Don't give up.

Oh wow, Fitch. I honestly thought I must be the only person playing for years (after all, that's a lot of practice!) who hadn't beat Tuber. That actually gives me back some hope on it. I just need to find my patience to really concentrate and not do my well ingrained habit of just charging through thoughtlessly like a crazy person.

I actually though the HoF was broken since it's been frozen on the same person since the 50 flakes came in. 109

I'm also heartened a major items collector like fabianh also didn't notice the item thing until they read it! It honestly has immediately changed my game for the better as knowing whatever effect I'm getting will be it for the level helps form something like a strategy.

And, yeah, Flashpocalypse... every major browser will fully disable Flash in 2020 so I can't see how that won't be the end of Hammerfest. :pleure:

Well, the HoF IS broken, you're right about that. It's just that Fitch managed to get there in 2012 ;)

94 btw will always add another point item, never an effect item. Can be interesting to know :)

Well, it's actually the whole ranking system that became broken back in February (I think) 2017. People just accumulate in the pyramid stage they were in at that time.

The annoying thing is that HoF would have been the most attainable goal for me at this point were it not for that!

And, yeah, the whole effects vs. points item thing pretty much resolves the long-standing love-hate relationship I'd had with 94

I'd always be thrilled to get one but as the levels went on and all it would give me was 1111 1104 and 1079 type stuff I'd start to get increasingly huffy with its uselessness. But now I know that's just its function (and that it gave me my missing cauliflower) I'm at peace with it. ^_^

If it's any consolation, I've never had anything higher than a low coeff 4 when I have the Ring of Antok. It doesn't increase chances, because the odds are the odds for each item. It's not cumulative, or least not in my experience. :(

Well, 94 just gives you an additional roll for an item. So it doesn't increase the chance for the single items, but on levels where you have 94 you will on average get twice the amount of point C5s you would get without it, simply because you get twice the amount of point items in general.

i somehow feel like often when you actually get one you will get multiple in a single game. I know it is just coincidence, but for example in my last game, I got 4 94 after many games of getting none, and that happens surprinsingly often :innocent:
