I'm pretty sure I've never found more than 2 in one game anyway so I'm not the best point of comparison.

Good News!: my one self-determined quest is over; I got my 2nd evil liquor last night and the Wine Key just now!

Bad News: I am doing a very bad job at "trying" to be patient. Even though I now know the effect item is the 1st item I've since lost out on properly using a on level 20 and a on level 47 by not waiting the paltry 5 seconds for it to appear and instead just charging ahead with killing things immediately.

I don't know how to convince myself to play more calmly. This is why I will not beat Tuber!

It's just a matter of habituation.
But it really doesn't matter too much whether you wait for it or not. and aren't too common (both C3 if I remember correctly) and in some levels it might be even better to kill multiple enemies with one bomb instead to benefit from the better .
I'd put it just the other way around - learning to play quickly and efficiently in the later levels can really save you some lives. Not waiting for your bomb to explode until you move on to the next enemy for example.
