I was playing the game, and reached a high level, something like 25 or so, with 4 lives!

And I mistakely pressed the "weather" button from the toolbar, and exited the game. When I pressed back, my game was lost, and so all the items i coltected in that game, items that i will probably not find again soon...

Is there any way to get the items I colected back?

Unfortunately you are out of luck, this has happened to me a couple times, once with a candy cane(!!!) and there's simply nothing they can do. Though I hate the idea, I kind of understand why it's done this way:

Lets say you play the game all the way through, gain no worthwhile items, and die just before... something. Well, before your character leaves the screen you can pause it and navigate away. You come back and you still have a game because it wasn't saved, and you also have the practice you experienced from playing that game.

Now, what I would do is have it check for you navigating away from the screen and either: deny it or: save the exact position of the game (somehow) and restart it from that point when you come back. I'm not familiar enough with flash/actionscript to tell you whether or not it's easy but they could certainly add some javascript checks on the window at the very least to say "Don't Leave this window unless you're absolutely sure you want to". Me, I just unplug my mouse when I play. No computer use whatsoever.

No, there are no checkpoints or saves, but you can pause it via the C or P key and leave your PC on (or put it in hibernation) and continue playing later.

Best solution would be a question if you're sure you want to leave the page.
