Maybe ? When R2D2 was invented for Star Wars, it was revolutionary and technically impossible. Now there are a lot of simple machines that can help people, like computers (which were far less common at the Time Star Wars IV was created) and others.

Or : Money helps people - at least it makes a lot of things easier than they might be with the old countertrade (good word? don't know...), but simple golden coins like that are not used anymore.
