[This is an off-topic thread. I think its creation is justified, since many non-HF games have been posted in various places on this forum (one by Zax himself), and I see no reason they shouldn't all be able to frolic in the same place. ]

Post any arcade-style games you enjoy playing, so that we can have something to do when our 's run out. You can also discuss scores and strategies and such, if Zax allows it.

The rules are as follows:

1) It must be free to play, and relatively well-known.
2) You must provide a link.
3) It should be arcade-style, i.e. similar to Hammerfest. (Because we shan't just start spamming the names of every game we've ever played.) Platformers and 16-bit are a must.

If a game gets good reception, I'll add it to this list.

To play DOS-based games (e.g. BB, Keen), you will need to install DOSBox.

The symbol means this game was a source of inspiration for Hammerfest.
The symbol means this game is exceptionally difficult.

After each game's title/link are the names of the user who submitted it, and the holder of the highest score (if applicable). Post your high scores so I can add them !

I do not usually play platformers, or even arcades (what am I doing here? ), but this masterpiece is an exception: Cave Story (Doukutsu Monogatari). It is a game with a soul.

Um, not sure if this counts, but it's an Arcade Shooter, so it might...

Ever heard of Touhou? If you live anywhere than Japan, you can get it for free.
Not sure how to discribe the awesomeness of it, but I guess I'd say...
You have a very tiny hit box, and you have to dodge either only a couple, or hundreds of bullets. o.o;
There are only girl characters, so if you don't want to play as a girl, don't bother with it. -.- All the enemies are girls, too.
The only bad thing in the game is the swearing, they swear a couple times...

Well. There is a game called I Wanna be The Fangame!, that is a kind of remake of I Wanna Be The Guy. I don't know if IWBTFG counts as an game other than IWBTG or not.

This seems to be accepted quite well... So I'll post two games a friemd showed me recently:
An Untitled Story - you start out as an egg (yes, an EGG) that can "walk" and jump. Nothing more. But as you proceed, you gain more abilities, of course have to pass trickier situations, and you discover a kind of storyline. Cute game
F(l)ail, a really hard jumping game; passing through 80 levels with lots of spikes and very accurate jumps. Very addictive

All added. I figure, as long as the list doesn't get really really long, I'll go ahead and include all submissions for now. All of these are top-notch games ! Great work, people.

@Carrot, don't hesitate to post a link to Touhou. This game actually had a significant following among some of my friends a few months ago, but I never got a chance to try it. Looks like fun.

Hm, the one problem is that Touhou has about... 8 or 9 games out now.

I simply ADORE Flail! I could play it for hours. Mah ha ha... just one to go...

If you go to www.vizzed.com/vizzedboard/ - they have just about all the old Nintendo, Gameboy, Gameboy Color, and Atari games there for you to play in your browser, assuming you have Java up to date.

They used to have Game Gear and Sega games there too, but apparently Sega asked the site to take them down, which they did.

But if you want to play the classics, feel free.
