This might be super basic, but do you have your computer plugged into a surge protector? If no, do that, and if yes, are you hitting the reset iwth your foot?

Also, what operating system are you running? Some of the newer windows systems like to restart without any warning just to annoy you. You can turn that off but I'm not sure how off the top of my head.

It's also possible you have a virus or your computer is going to die, but I'd rather not think about that yet if possible.

That sounds so frustrating. :pleure:

Using a power strip/surge protector is definitely a good idea. If you're already doing that, it could be that your power supply (the box in the back of the case that holds the fan and the power cord) is failing. Especially if the shutoffs happen more often when you open large programs or run your peripherals (e.g. printer or scanner), that might be the problem.

My previous computer did the exact same thing -- twice, actually -- and giving it a new power supply fixed it both times.

Most office supply stores have a 14-day money-back guarantee, so you'd probably have time to try out a replacement and see if it helps. ;)

no! why did it have to happen? i was having a pretty bad game (i've had lots of those recently), so i went into pd43 with one life. died on 43.0, then on 43.1 111 showed up. i was very excited, the kiwis actually seemed to be semi-cooperating and i could have gotten it. but lo and behold, i wasn't paying attention to that stupid lemon, which spit and killed me :x so mad. at least i found my 10th 72 today.

Unfortunately the problem with powering off can be caused by many things. If the electricity is not stable... if the power cord is not ok, if the Power Supply Unit on your PC is old... many of the things on the motherboard may be failing. For example when you play your Graphic card and your Processor may overheat and safety protocols may shut down your computer to avoid damage on them. My latest experience was from bad placed RAM. And of course it may be something with the software - Windows errors, browser errors, some other software that's running errors, viruses... Unfortunately I can't help you if I can't take a look at the PC :(
