Do you know a reason for this lag? Simply too much work for your computer, or is it maybe something that starts suddenly in the background? (Antivirus program updater for example) Maybe you can try to end as many programs and processes as possible before, turn off update funcitions for as long as you play, ... don't know.
Or just be patient, continue playing until you would be able to survive with 4 or 5 starting lives, so losing this one more wouldn't kill you (okay, this will require more time, but it is possible)

Whatever you can or can't do - I wish you really good luck. If you are angry, think of what you have already done with this lag (e.g. beaten Tuber in normal mode; ended some of the harder PDs like 51 and 23, etc.) 1002

Sorry to hear that, man. I perfectly know what you mean. I was going to give up playing, because it was impossible for me to get the 1202 when the raspberries start teleporting all over the map (I had it 3 times after more than a hundred games) and then I had to buy and setup a new pc for a colleague of mine and it works GREAT! No lag at all. I took it 7 times in 10 games and now I'm trying to reach the snow bomb. (I watched those two videos earlier and I'm mad about the luck those guys had with the items. I would have gotten it yesterday if that last letter appeared...) But I can't play too often on that computer so I guess it won't be very soon.

Thanks for your boundless condolence Zax and 30191!

I've already shut down every single program that could try to update or otherwise slow down my computer constantly or randomly.

...Hmmm... ...I bought 100 game more...

Well, luckily I'm not unforgiving and calm down quickly after the storm... ;) :D

I've checked fps, and it's about 30-40 when lag occurs.

My network connection enables HL2 multiplay in the internet without lag.

What about my flash drivers? Could that be the main problem? My laptop usually performs fine even under hard tasks and I wonder why this game is so tough to my PC. :P

you can press ctrl+alt+del and keep it open and you will be able to see in the task bar (the icons near the time) how much of your processor is being used. If youre having way too much lag and have no idea why, go to the "processes tab" in the task manager and see what programs are hogging up the CPU/RAM. Try to end those programs, but DONT end the process! that will make your computer unstable as the warning says and you will have to restart. if you cant end the program thats using too much CPU, right click on it and click "Set Affinity" and if you have more than 1 core in your computer you can disable 1 of the CPUs it can process on and it wont make your computer become unstable. also make sure your quality is low and you turned off vibrations (from game options) if you have a slower computer

I think you can also end the processes without making the system unstable - but be careful. Only end a process if you know what it does! (and never end explorer.exe while playing :D ) Usually there won't be anything running except for your internet browser, so you even have to end the processes instead of the programms.

My few cents:

40 fps is normal. Even 30 fps is not too bad ... I often have to suffer with 20 fps in the 90's, and as low as 11 on level 78. The first thing to do is to make sure all tasks are ended other than your browser before you start playing.

As 30191 said (I typed this before seeing his comment), many processes can in fact be ended safely, but it is important to have caution and make sure you know what the process is responsible for before you end it. Also note that "System Idle Process" simply stockpiles any CPU that is NOT being used. If you see this process using 80-90% of your RAM, this is a good thing.

Ending explorer.exe will make the GUI disappear from your computer so that you can only operate in the windows that are already open.

I wasn't aware you could adjust the quality of HF. How ? :?

Right-click->quality

I'm not sure about the vibrations but...

Anyway, a duo/quad core should NOT lag with Hfest. At all. Unless it's a 1.0GHz duo, but i don't think those exist. The cause of lag is most likely the RAM speed. (oh, you heard right. Size of the ram means nothing. It's the speed that counts.)

Vibrations and quality can be adjusted by selecting options before hitting the play button on the slect mode page. ;)

Wow, right-click ... strange, I thought I've tried right-clicking before and I didn't see that. Silly me. :P

@ANS, I already have everything turned off in the Options. I did that within my first few weeks of playing. The LMH is what I hadn't seen before.
