Small Discoveries

Pyramid level: 2 132

I noticed recently someone posted a thread about the fireball detonating bombs about a week ago. I though it would be better to have one thread for these small discoveries than one for each. Here is where you can share interesting finds from the game that are not worthy of an entire topic.

I'll start out by telling about two very interesting discoveries I made Yesterday. First of all, I found out that a lychee killed in one go (instead of peeling, then freezing) yields a 1008 . I also found out that using the 85 temporarily deactivates the 7

Cool! I was hoping someone would make a topic like this. :)

As I mentioned in the fireball topic, it's interesting to note that 92 multiplies pear bombs. (Yikes.) Like marinzeus, I wonder if it also affects kiwi traps/bombs.

I've found a few odd ways to obtain 1008 too. You can peel a lychee in such a way that the slight bounce it does immediately afterward sends it off its ledge (Level 58 works for this; they'll fall through the teleporters easily). You can kill an apricot in such a way that its minis descend straight from the top of the screen to the bottom (Level 15.10, the one with the red bomb-changer pillar, is a good example). Occasionally an apricot will just fall off a ledge on its own; they seem to do that when they're hopping down a "stair" of 1-square blocks and forget to stop (it seems to happen most on Level 56).

Not a discovery per se, but sort of a handy tip: If you're in a rush to get to a flashing item, you can reach it faster if you cross small gaps with a bomb drop instead of a full jump. It can shave off the couple of milliseconds it takes to make the difference between grabbing it or not. :D It works great for 2-square gaps; don't know about 3, but to bomb-hop 4 squares or more I'm pretty sure you need the 7

gmnemo brought this up: How wide is the upper gap in Level 10? I tried hopping that with the shoes, and it seems to be the farthest you can go without actually jumping.

As far as I remember, it does. And NEVER run after a kiwi bomb you just kicked :D

Another intersting way to get 1008 is to let an enemy fall on spikes without using bombs. Level 33 is a good example. But this is quite known too.

You can - with a little bit of training - jump over 3-squares gaps without 7 . Not really difficult, but you need to trust in yourself :D
4 squares are only possible with 7 , with these it is also possible to jump over the long gap left of level 17's teleporter (hope I got the number right. The second one with 4 bananas). I think this is one of the longest gaps for that. You can also jump over that with two bombs and without 7

I can't tell a number for that, but it is certainly too short to be jumped with two bombs and without 7 . And of course too long for one bomb.

And for all who don't know this: You can use the bomb-jump for 1-square gaps and go down one square by doing this. Not really helpful, but possible. It could be helpful for one hell level (54.10? One with 3 lemons and many spikes), but I don't use it; it is too dangerous.

I don't understand the part of the gap in level 10...
What are you trying to do there? Jumping it? Stay on it? :?

bomb-jumping over it, like you can go over small gaps without really jumping by dropping a bomb.

I couldn't get it about level 10 but there I jump over the gap without 7 and without the bomb-jump technique :innocent: 1236

I can share a few odd things.

I have noticed that on levels where the floor somewhere disappears before all the enemies are dead, the enemies don't realize it. The enemies will sometimes try to use the floor after it is gone, resulting in death. This can happen on level 86, one of the levels in the 51 PD (I think it was the first one with enemies) and the one before the game pad in hell.

There is also something weird about blue bombs when mixed with the fireball or a saw. When a fireball hits a blue bomb, it immediately explodes, but it explodes again when it would have done so if the fireball hadn't hit it, which is weird. The 2nd explosion isn't visible, but it's effects are. It is sometimes helpful on 54.2. This effect can also happen with saws, though I have only seen that in videos.

Also, a while back, something very weird happened on level 26, the one with 3 apples and 2 diagonal rows for a floor. Instead of going down one step at a time, an apple jumped downwards, skipping several steps. This sped it up, took me by surprise, and and killed me. I can think of no cause for this other than randomness, and suspect it may be the cause of enemies falling to their own death for no apparent reason while on 'stairs' like this, as Vanilleon noticed earlier in the thread.

Neko just made a discovery.

If you plant a bomb and it hits, say, 3 fruits, 2 fall off the screen? If an item appears (such as 82 for instance) that will kill the remaining evemy, and you get it while the remaining enemy is still frozen, you get the next small crystal in line. so in this case, a red one.

Who knew? :D

Probably everyone. :charte:

I didn't know that. Handy!

Just made a less-handy discovery on .es while playing with Ninjutsu Mode: If you pick up a 89 and it happens to transform the target enemy... death is inevitable. XD The heart-fruits continue wandering around happily, and you still can't get away with killing them, even though the marked target is gone.
