@pigletto: When I see an item like that, I just jump into the box and sometimes I even get it, sometimes I die and get it unter the shield.

Aside from that - it "only" takes a lot of dexterity. For example you can wait until there is a good moment and then step on the small square above the bomb changers. Avoiding the baddybombs is very hard there (they hit me very often), but from there you can beat the two pears in the middle part of the level, and after you got them, it becomes a lot easier because all the enemies (or most of them) will be at the bottom of the level, so you only have to throw bombs at them :)

So in the end it is just training. I think 54.6 is the hardest Hell level until you reach the late Tuber's Tomb. 54.7 and 54.8 are similarly hard (okay, 54.7 should not be too hard at all^^ but for me it is :( ), then you can go far without losing too many lives.
(Okay, the one Howling Metal level with four bobbles and crazy white-blue bomb changers is evil too)

@ Vanilleon and co.:

Aside from trying to find certain rare items to glean their benefits, I see no tangible purpose to avoiding the quests. If your goal is to achieve a full Fridge, then in the long run doing this will hold you back. The way I understand it, the chances of seeing a coef-5 item (for example) on any given level are always the same (1 in 700), no matter how many coef-5 items you have available to get. It will help you in the short run, yes; but later on, you will still have basically the same number of items obtained as if you had simply played normally. The only difference is that you'd have more than ten of the items you hurried to unblock, and less than ten of the items you held off on (rather than around ten of everything). Isn't it better to try to keep all items balanced ?

I have a question...

Does anyone know of a good software that I can use to map two buttons to one? I want to play two player mode, but I only have myself and my younger sister. Could I do something so that I have Sandy and Igor in the Exact same place so that it would be just like one player, only with giant bombs and halved points by mapping the Sandy and Igor control buttons to the same keys?

Keytweak lloks like it only switches keys. Do you know if it combines them?

I've used it before, and:

Short answer: yes, it can combine keys. ;)

Long answer: you can, say, map A to left arrow and still have both keys register as left arrow ;)

@30191:I thought of killing myself, but I wasn't sure it would be fast enough. I'll try it next time :). I think 54.8 is quite a bit harder than 54.6 myself. I haven't managed to get past it without a special item yet, though getting there with only 1-2 lives doesn't help there. However, I usually get through 54.7 without losing a life now. If you want, I can explain how I do it?
